DJ Andy Richardson

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions I’m Often Asked

Q1. Which parts of Scotland do you cover? I live outside Fife.

A1. “While I mainly cover Fife and the surrounding areas, I do travel throughout Scotland. This includes Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Perth. So, if your venue is further afield, please feel free to ask — I’m always happy to travel.”

Q2. What kind of events do you DJ for?

A2. “My speciality is weddings, corporate events, and black-tie functions, but I also DJ a wide range of other events. Every event is different, and I tailor what I do to suit the occasion, the venue and, most importantly, the people attending.”

Q3. Do you do birthdays and other private parties?

A3. “Yes, absolutely. My style is particularly suited to an adult crowd, typically 30+, with music and entertainment designed to get everyone up, enjoying themselves and having a great night.”

Q4. With 40 years’ experience, are you not a little bit old?

A4. “Well, it's actually 40 years of experience! Over that time, my style has constantly evolved with changing trends, along with the music and technology I use, from vinyl right through to fully digital. At the end of the day, a DJ is only as old as the music they play.”

Q5. What music do you play, and do you take requests?

A5. “The music I’m asked to play varies from event to event, but I find the ’90s are currently among my most requested, closely followed by the ’80s. Rock and indie are also high on the request list, along with classic Clubland favourites. And absolutely, I take requests — I want to know what your guests want to hear and use that to help create the right atmosphere for your event.”

Q6. Do you take playlists?

A6. “I do, but I always advise a little caution. Creating a great party atmosphere often relies on the DJ being spontaneous, and having the music pre-planned can sometimes restrict that spontaneity. A playlist with a selection of genres tends to work much better, along with just a few personal song choices.”

Q7. I’m looking for a DJ, but I’ve never arranged a party before and I’m not really sure where to start. Can you help?

A7. “For me, it’s about more than simply supplying the music. I completely understand events, so if you run your ideas past me, I can help bring everything together. From a small family birthday to a large corporate event, I can offer advice on room layouts, suggest timings and recommend trusted suppliers. I have years of experience in the hospitality industry, and I’m always happy to share that expertise to help make your event run smoothly.”

Q8. We’re getting married, but we’re extremely anxious about having a first dance. What can we do?

A8. “And again, this is where my many years of experience come in. I have various suggestions and tips to help make all the formalities feel much less of a worry, so everything flows naturally and beautifully on the night.”

Q9. I have a friend who sings and plays guitar. Is it okay for them to be included?

A9. “Yes, absolutely. If you have a friend performing, we can easily work them into the flow of the night. I can also accommodate small duets, sax players and even keyboard players through my setup. For larger bands using their own sound system, I can run my lighting alongside it too, helping to keep the stage area looking clean and uncluttered.”

Q10. Do you bring your own equipment, especially lights?

A10. “Yes, I bring my own professional setup, including backup equipment should it ever be needed. This includes a fully programmed lighting system, designed to complement the music and change throughout the night to help create the right atmosphere.”

Q11. Do you do Christmas parties?

A11. “Absolutely. But my Christmas parties are a little different from the usual background music while you dine — the whole evening becomes part of the entertainment, with various interactive games and activities between courses. It’s also a great format for multi-room venues, helping the kitchen keep service running smoothly while everyone enjoys a fantastic party atmosphere.”

Q12. Why doesn’t your website show prices?

A12. “I do have base prices, but I then factor in things such as travel, timings, setup requirements and preparation. This means I can provide a fair price that’s tailored specifically to what your event needs.”

Q13. Your fee is higher than most of the quotes I’ve received. Why?

A13. “I understand I might not always be the cheapest option, and I’m certainly not trying to be. My pricing reflects my 40 years of experience, the professional equipment i use, and the high level of service I provide. For me, it’s about value, not simply price. I also don’t take back-to-back bookings every weekend, which means I can give your event my full attention, from the initial planning right through to the end of the night.”

Q14. In the unlikely event you’re unable to attend, what arrangements do you have in place?

A14. “First of all, in all my years as a DJ, I’ve never missed a booking — not many DJs can truthfully say that. However, in the unlikely event of an emergency, I have arrangements in place through a trusted network of professional DJs I can call upon if needed. So, even in those unexpected circumstances, you can rest assured that you’re still in safe hands.”
