Q & A's
Q. OK, so how's this different. Isn't it just a Disco?
A. Well basically Yes. The difference is how the Disco is presented. As a DJ for more years than I care to mention. I have studied what makes the certain events stand out from others. From Birthdays to Festivals, when a DJ plays the music they know & love, it shows. So I've simply focused on the music that I know & love, then play to people who also share the same connection. When I connect with the music, the people connect with me.... Now there lies an amazing night.
Q. Would this be good for a Dinner Dance, or a Corporate Event?.
A. 100%. With special lower key playlist while guests dine. Then after any formalities, Its on with the music, that's aimed to get people on that dancefloor.
Q. But I know how I want my DJ to perform, & I know what songs I want my DJ to play?
A. It's a modern trend to present the DJ with a playlist, sometimes dictating the order too. In most cases, these songs are the personal favourites of those booking the DJ. What then gets lost is all that DJ expertise, as the songs aren't always the choices that will get the guests on the dancefloor. A professional DJ doesn't just play certain songs, they play them at certain times. It's what I do. This maximises the effect of each song, creating highs & lows. I often describe it as a rollercoaster in reverse. So each high is bigger than the one before. This is designed to build & build, creating an amazing night.
Q. But I asked my guests for their favourite songs, so it'll be fine?
A. If you was to randomly ask people what their favourite song is, its a known fact that the majority would be a Ballard. Plus, because you have asked them, they'll expect their songs to be included. I have a vast knowledge of what songs work at specific events. However, I love requests on the night, as now people are thinking with their feet. They want danceable songs.
Q. Once the guests arrive, I literally want everyone up dancing from the start?
A. It's actually so rare that guests will dance from the very start of an evening. Even if a few do, its often to just a odd songs, or just as they enter the room. From Birthdays to Corporate Events, most people like to chat first. It's just human nature to socialise. Also, If I play the best songs too early, they are wasted. That's why I also suggest specific timings for buffets, etc. Its based on year's of research what works, & what doesn't. Then for the early part, I have carefully chosen background playlists. Played at a level so people can easily chat, but be aware of the Disco's presence. The songs are selected to sow seeds, & slowly the presence is raised. Then at that time, I'm right there with them. Then come the non-stop floor-fillers.
Q. So basically, I don't have a say on what music is played, etc?
A. OK, I fully get that this concept isn't for everyone. Its for those who want to simply book their DJ, then relax knowing that their party is completely in professional hands. However, by offering a selection of different music packages. I think I've managed to cover most bases.
Q. OK, so I'm basically liking the idea. But I don't want a to be completely stuck in one decade?
A. That's where a bit of artistic licence comes in. So, image you booked the a specific decade. Then yes, the majority would be from the chosen decade. But, I'll cross over & add some gems from other decades too.
Q. You mention the 50's to the 00's. but I only see the 70's, 80's, & 90's are as specific decades.
A. It's actually the most popular 3 decades, It's simply just that. But I'm equally as knowledgeable with the 50's & 60's. Or in specific genres like Northern Soul, Indie, Reggae, or SKA. Simply ask me when enquiring.
Q. Would this work at a Wedding?.
A. More aimed at a mature couple, & a few tweaks to the timings. To include the cutting of the cake, & 1st Dance. Just bear in mind it is technically a themed disco, & best mentioned to your guests. Especially those after some Taylor Swift for the youngsters. But I can recommend an excellent Children's DJ for the early slot.
